What Is a Triblend Shirt?

A triblend shirt is a tee knit from three fibers blended together — typically about 50% polyester, 25% ring-spun cotton, and 25% rayon. That mix makes it exceptionally soft and lightweight, with a slight stretch, a draped fit, and the faded, heathered look triblend is known for.

Fig. II — The Short Version

The Short Answer

  • i

'Triblend' means three fibers in one fabric: usually polyester, ring-spun cotton, and rayon.

  • ii

The common blend is about 50% polyester, 25% cotton, 25% rayon, though ratios vary by maker.

  • iii

Triblend is softer, lighter, and drapier than 100% cotton, with a subtle stretch.

  • iv

It has a naturally heathered, vintage look — colors read slightly faded or marled.

  • v

Polyester adds durability, rayon adds drape, cotton adds comfort — that's the three-fiber tradeoff.

  • vi

Triblend takes screen and DTF prints well, but the heathered surface gives a softer, vintage finish.

"Three fibers, one job: the softest, drapiest tee in the rack."

Frequently Asked

This block carries FAQ schema (JSON-LD) for AEO
What does triblend mean?

Triblend means the fabric is made from three fibers blended together — typically polyester, ring-spun cotton, and rayon. The three-fiber mix is what gives triblend its soft, lightweight, draped feel.

What is triblend fabric made of?

Usually polyester, cotton, and rayon. Polyester adds durability and shape retention, cotton adds comfort, and rayon adds softness and drape. A common ratio is about 50% polyester, 25% cotton, and 25% rayon, but it varies.

Is triblend better than 100% cotton?

It depends on what you want. Triblend is softer, lighter, and drapier with a vintage, heathered look; 100% cotton is more structured and opaque and prints bold, solid graphics better. They're different feels, not better or worse.

Can you print on triblend shirts?

Yes. Screen printing and DTF both work well. The heathered surface gives a softer, slightly vintage print; very dense, opaque prints will show the fabric texture more than they would on smooth cotton.

Why are triblend shirts more expensive?

The three-fiber blend, especially the rayon, costs more to produce than basic cotton. At Bayou, triblend blanks that come through as liquidation overstock are still a flat $4.25/unit.

Does Bayou sell triblend blanks?

Yes, in limited overstock runs, at the same flat $4.25/unit ($2.92 by the 12-pack) — no account, every size the same price. Stock varies, so colors can sell through.
